St Mary Magdalene C of E School

St Mary Magdalene C of E Primary School is successful and popular, judged outstanding by Ofsted in Autumn 2012. It was listed in the top 300 English state primary schools in the Sunday Times newspaper in November 2014. In April 2013 the school became the lead school in a collaboration with Christ Church School in East Greenwich. Since this time there have been two co-Headteachers leading across the two schools.

There are now two St. Mary Magdalene sites. On the Woolwich site there are two forms of entry across the primary phase in all year groups from Nursery to Year Five, with one Year 6 class. As from September 2015 there will be two year 6 classes on this site. There are currently two Reception classes and one Year 1 class on the Peninsula Site with a planned admission number and capacity of 60 places per year age group which will increase year on year. There will also be a Nursery on the site from September 2016. The school expansion will result in a total of 840 primary places by 2020. Christ Church School is a one-form entry primary school with 30 places available in each year group. St. Mary Magdalene is establishing a secondary phase to the school on the Peninsula site, to provide a total of 900 places for pupils aged 11-16, with the first intake of 180 pupils starting in September 2016. The roll will then build so that the school would be fully operational for year groups 7 to 11 by September 2020. It is also proposed to establish a sixth form provision from September 2018, providing 300 places for pupils aged 16-19.

OUR MISSION

We are a church school, linked with the Church of England Parish of St. Mary Magdalene with St. Michael’s and All Angels, Woolwich. In October 2012 we were judged as being an Outstanding school. You can view a copy of the report here.

At St. Mary Magdalene we aim:

  • To create a caring, stimulating, happy environment where adults and children are safe and secure, valued as individuals and are encouraged to meet new experiences with confidence.
  • To foster and nurture the Christian faith and ethos of the Church of England within the school by example, teaching and close links with the Christian community.
  • To enable children and adults to develop spiritually, socially, intellectually and emotionally.
  • To provide a broad and balanced curriculum, which will equip pupils with the skills and knowledge needed for 21st century life.
  • To constantly strive to raise our standards of teaching, learning and attainment, even when they are already deemed good.
  • To recognise the individual needs of the children and match those needs, enabling every child to realise their full potential.
  • To develop in the children a responsible moral attitude as members of a community, respecting the needs of others.
  • To develop a partnership between the home, the school, the church and the wider community recognising the contributions, which they play in the development of every child.
  • To promote a healthy lifestyle through the curriculum and providing opportunities to eat healthily and exercise regularly
